Beehive Mine

Towering chimney at the top of Main Street, you cannot miss it!

Getting there: Walk 3 minutes walk up Main Street

South German Mine

Do a lap of the South German Mine for bird watching and to see the lake and mining ruins.

Getting there: Access via Phoenix Street off Main Street.

Great to take your four legged friends for a walk.

Maldon Train Station

Maldon is famed for it’s classic steam train and Victorian train station! The steam train operates between Maldon and Castlemaine several times per week, and you’ll find all the details on our “what’s on” page, including dates for ‘Ale on Rails’ and special movie nights.

Rock of Ages

A truly spectacular outcrop overlooking Maldon and surrounds. We recommend you head up around sunset for an amazing panoramic view. It also makes for stunning photos!

Getting there: Rock of Ages Track. 45 minutes hike, or 5 minutes by car (4WD essential).

Charlie Fox’s House

A little house for hidden in the foot of Rock of Ages!

Getting there: off Back Cemetery Road, opposite the golf course, behind the Maldon Cemetery.

Anzac Hill

Hike up to the memorial overlooking Maldon town.

Getting there: 15 minutes hike (wear sensible shoes), follow the tracks at the top of Spring Street.

Machinery Museum

Fascinating museum full of working machinery, an interactive adventure for kids and adults.

Getting there: Walk to town of town and down Vincent Street.

Hours: Wednesday 11-3pm, Saturday 10-4pm, or by appointment.

Admission: Free, donation gladly accepted.

Wonderful collections of artefacts, photographs and historical records related to Maldon’s gold rush.

Getting there: 3 minutes walk from High Street, just behind the Visitor Centre

Admission: $5 per adult, free for children

Carman’s Tunnel

Venture underground into a goldmine of the 1880s.

Getting there: 10 minutes walk out, Parker Reef Road.

Tour operates on: Saturday, Sunday & school holidays. 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm. (currently closed due to COVID-19)

Admission: $7.50 Adults, $2.50 Children
