VINTAGE SHOPS

by Kate Gamble

Vintage is my thing. It just is.

Whether it’s a loud and bold piece of 50s Bitossi Blue, or a patinated rosewood grandfather’s chair, I’m there. And yes, my home is pretty eclectic!

There are so many great vintage stores, our region is full of them, and they are all fabulous. I couldn’t do what I do without some of those who have kept their businesses going this year by selling online - they all deserve a shoutout – and I guarantee you will find something magical at each and every one. That’s the joy of vintage.

So I’m going to cheat a little with my picks….. Because you need to know this info! You do!

Of the locals, first up for any vintage-lover has to be the Maldon Antique Fair. It. Is. The. Best. You just have to plan around a weekend in February here so you can get there early. And go twice.

Enfilade Plus

Has to be the star of antique and vintage linens, and lovely things French, and has been for a good few years. Di has the best eye, and it’s impossible to leave without bringing something home (also select new linens of delicious quality).

Tansley & Co.

On a mission to bring back the glory days of brown antique furniture, and killing it. Valentina and Mark curate rooms of furniture of all sorts of styles. Great pieces, great prices, and all housed in a divine building.

The Old Bank Corner Maldon

The Old Bank Corner

Not one shop, but two, rolled into one. You’ll know it when you come into town (the old servo), but you might not know that there is a hidden treasure of old-school antiques in an unlikely site. On the left visit Wayne for a taste of the gracious, often exquisite Victorian, and on the right a more eclectic fossick at Elsie and Pat’s.

Acorn Wood

With a delightful collection of old wares, Fiona’s windows are always a delight. Table and kitchen ware, and interesting pieces - of old silvers and creams and whites, aged wood, and warmth. A lovely shop!

Forget Me Not Flowers

For a taste of all things floral, including a changing selection of those gorgeous vintage floral china pieces that tug at every heartstring.
