PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATIONS

by Rob Leeson

Throughout the years in the industry, I have found a particular passion in producing environmental portraits, with a knack for capturing people best in their surrounds. But the once place I truly love photographing is my town, Maldon!

So grab your camera, here are a few of my favourite locations in town.

No trip to Maldon is complete without checking out our VGR railway heritage.

Victorian Goldfields Railway

This is an authentic steam heritage train linking the historic gold mining towns of Castlemaine. It presents numerous unique photo opportunites. Whether you decide to take a train ride and enjoy travelling old world style, or simply walk the tracks, camera in hand, you’re sure to enjoy this amazing and iconic railway experience.

Rock of Ages

Rock of ages is located on Mt Moorul overlooking Maldon, and Rob says “ The light here is forever changing and wonderful for a Sunset Shot”

A few minutes from town and I’ll you will probably need a 4WD but it’s worth the trip.

The Dredge

The Dredge is an important remnant of Maldon’s gold rush era. It’s located at Porcupine Flat, just minutes up the road, in what was once a flourishing area. The dredge and dragline represent a phase when technology enabled relatively large scale reworking of earlier deposits which had first been worked by thousands of individual prospectors in the rush of the 1850s.

The morning mist provides a great opportunity for moody images here and lends insight into the mining past of this area.
